Beautiful summer weather has settled into Borderland and along with balmy weather we have a great walleye bite. Anglers are having good success around the submerged humps on both sides of the Brule Narrows. If it’s calm jig with a minnow in about 25 feet of water, and troll a spinner rig and minnow in the same area if it’s windy. The best bite has been in the morning. Smallmouth bass can be found along the rocky and weed southern shorelines right now. Crappie are hitting around the mouth of the Rat Root River on the west end of Black Bay.
Rainy River walleye can be found along the slower wide bends in the river in about 15 feet of water, they are reacting best to white or gold spinners and shiner minnows. As usual, there also some good fishing near the heavy currents generated by the dam at International Falls where anglers are finding both walleye and smallmouth bass.
The official start of summer is about ten days away but you’d be hard pressed not to say it is summertime now. Get outside and enjoy
