The forecasters say the cold spell we’ve had is giving in to warmer temperatures and that will mean some fresh snow. That’s good news for snowmobilers, the groomers have the trails in good shape now, a little fresh snow will only help conditions improve.
Ice fishing on Rainy Lake has been best in the morning and evening, jigging with minnows in 25 to 30 feet of water inSand Bay is always popular, but ice road access to areas east of Island View opens up all sorts of possibilities with portable gear.
Snowshoe hikes are planned each Saturday through March 19, a Voyageurs National Park ranger will lead a hike to a different destination each Saturday, just be at the Rainy Lake visitor Center prior to the planned 1pm start. No snowshoes? No problem! The Park service can provide them as well as cross country skis if you’d like to get out on the nearby trail
