Rainy Lake is icing over very nicely thanks to the steady cold and fairly low snowfall. Snowmobilers are venturing out and ice fishing has been good. As always, put safety first, check the ice depth and stick to established trails. Snowmobile trails and ice roads will be groomed and marked soon. Anglers say the walleye bite is best early in the day using jigs and minnows in 20 to 30 feet of water.
Although the cross country ski trails are now being groomed, snowmobile trails will require more snow before that can happen. There is some light snow in the forecast so it will not be long before the snowmobile trails will be in great shape.
