Anglers are getting out on Rainy Lake and the popular areas are Birch point and Rainy Lake City, areas that usually attain suitable ice earliest. Walleye are more likely around Birch Point and a mix of Walleye and Northern Pike more likely around Rainy Lake City. Jigging with minnows has been working best.
Accessibility is increasing on Rainy Lake with the opening of the snowmobile trail from Black Bay to Kabetogama. While the trail is staked and open, the other trails remain closed for now. Snowshoe trails are open and some cross country ski trails are being used but are not yet officially open.
