Voyageurs National Park has opened the Rainy Lake Ice Road providing easier access to the Rainy Lake City area where northern pike fishing has been pretty good. Use a good sized minnow and try in 12 to 15 feet of water. Walleye fishing has been better in Sand Bay using jigs and minnows in 25 to 30 feet of water. The best bet has been either early or late in the day. From time to time anglers are finding crappie hitting in Sand Bay as well.
Snowmobile trails from Rainy Lake to Crane Lake are open and staked, the snow we’ve been getting is helping improve the overland trails.
