The Rainy River access at Nelson Park in Birchdale is now open. Borderwaters regulations allow you to fish for walleye up until April 14. The Ron Hall Access in International Falls and Kuttes Landing at Pelland Junction have been open for a week. Early reports are that the fishing has been best in the heavier current below the dam at International Falls.
In the meantime, ice anglers continue to have success on Rainy Lake. Ice conditions will certainly vary as warmer weather rolls in, but for now, fishing has been good around Birch Point in Sand Bay and around the mouth of Black Bay.
Some hearty birds are returning to the forests and waters, some seagulls, songbirds and waterfowl have been showing up for the past week or so.
