The border waters regulations for Rainy Lake and Rainy River mean the walleye season will be open until April 14, 2015. The northern pike and smallmouth bass seasons also remain open. The recent warm weather has everyone wondering how soon the Rainy River launches will be cleared and ready for use. We will keep you posted.
The recent warm weather has put a dmaper on the snowmobiling around here. Trails deteriorated fast and we would need some solid freezing weather and a pretty good dump of snow to see any late season sledding.
The ice remains on Rainy Lake though, and it will be safe to head out for some ice fishing for the time being. The most popular spot right now is around Birch Point in Sand Bay. Walleye and crappie are hitting jigs and minnows at around 30 feet
