Best Places to Watch Fireworks on Rainy Lake
Rainy Lake’s northern neighbor celebrates Canada Day July 1, which means visitors to the area are
treated to not one, but two thrilling fireworks displays every year. Here are the best places to watch the
shows:
Best Places to Watch Fireworks on Rainy Lake
Canada Day, July 1
You don’t have to travel out of the country to enjoy the July 1 celebration. Fireworks take place in Fort Frances’ Point Park and are visible from the U.S. side in International Falls and Ranier. Find a viewing spot along the Rainy River at the Voyageurs National Park Headquarters, located on Highway 11 just east of International Falls. You can also drive (or bike) to Ranier, just 3 miles east of International Falls. Here you’ll find several places with clear, unobstructed views of the sky over Point Park. Try the Spruce Street dock, the community’s public landing, or stroll through the town to the dock for another great view. If you’re watching fireworks by boat, these same places will work, just be aware of safety issues such as increased boat traffic and the railroad bridge where Rainy Lake flows into Rainy River.

Independence Day, July 4
The International Falls fireworks display is located behind Falls High School, which is on the west side of town (1515 11th Street). Sponsored by the community’s EMS and fire department, the event offers great views of the night sky. Although the display is visible anywhere along highway 11/71, your best bet is to grab a seat in the bleachers of the baseball stadium behind the high school or bring your own chairs and set up in the field that run between the high school and elementary school.
What to Bring
In addition to lawn or camp chairs, or a blanket for seating, be sure to pack bug spray and an extra
jacket, as Rainy Lake weather can vary in July.
