Best Fall Vacation spot in Northern Minnesota

3/29/2017

A Fall Vacation is Just What You Need!

Picture
With autumn, our area becomes a great vacation destination or weekend getaway. The mixed hardwoods and evergreen forests become alive with color. Tour Voyageurs National Park and soak in the vibrantly colored foliage reflecting from the shorelines and islands. Take a scenic drive on a forestry road and you might encounter some wildlife as well as brilliant red, orange and yellow leaves tempered by the more muted hues of brown and tan. Hike or Bike any of the area trails or consider exploring Koochiching County by ATV or OHV.

Plan Your Vacation Around Fall Activities

Picture
Fall is really a great time for outdoor recreation. The temperatures are usually pretty moderate and the fall fishing and hunting is usually very good. Often, Rainy Lake walleye, northern pike and smallmouth bass are hitting on the bait fish that are leaving the shallower weedy areas to spend winter where the water won’t freeze. Find the right bait, the right spot and the right time and you are in for a boatload of fun.

Hunting for Public Land is a Breeze!

Picture
Small game hunters enjoy our area because of the widely varied and also abundant habitat. The vast tracts of public land can be accessed by hunter walking trails, ATV trails, forest roads and slowly disappearing tote roads. Big game hunters look for black bear and whitetail deer around here and waterfowl hunters can find plenty of great spots on flyways heading south.

Did We Mention the Important Birding Area Status?

Picture
Bird watchers in Minnesota already know our entire region is an Important Birding Area, meaning there are excellent opportunities to observe many species. Some will be migrating, some have nested here and are getting ready to head south, and some will winter here.
