The big event next week will be the ‘Twas the Lights Before Christmas parade in downtown International Falls. There will be floats with twinkling lights in the evening, but in the afternoon there will be horse drawn wagon rides. so head for the downtown a little early. After the parade, Santa and Mrs. Clause will be serving hot chocolate and cookies.
Christmas celebrations also kick off with the Logging Camp Christmas, a December Second event at the Backus Community Center. It’s a fund raiser for Koochiching Aging Options that includes a full family-style Christmas dinner and great entertainment. Tickets are limited and are available at City Drug. If you’d like more information, you can call 218 283 7084. Outdoor recreation will probably take a little break, the firearms deer season for our area closes on Sunday and with the first real snowfall of the season in the forecast, it’s pretty likely no one will be getting our fishing until after ice forms. Ruffed grouse and small game remain open though, so if the weather is pretty fair it could be worth a walk in the woods. If there’s a lot of snow, you might consider getting out the sleds, the snowmobile season officially opens on December 1st.
