Experience Canada

The International Falls border crossing is the busiest in Minnesota... and for good reason! After passing through Border Customs into Fort Frances Ontario, make a stop at one of their many fine-dining restaurants or downtown shops. Ontario also has great ice-fishing opportunities to encounter. No passport? No problem, International Falls offers many incredible restaurants and small-town shops!

Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada is distinctly different from the US. Enjoy shops featuring United Kingdom products at lower prices, and souvenirs like road signs indicating you are on the King’s Highway.

On the Canadian side of Rainy Lake, the Noden Causeway spans the north arm, offering great scenic views.
To the west, travel through the Rainy River Valley and stop to visit the Kay-nah-chi-wah-nung National Historic Site. It is a very nice interpretive center at the site of the Manitou Mounds.

Meanwhile, back in Fort Frances, there’s a nice museum on Scott Street, and a terrific Riverside Walkway that includes a 100 foot tall observation tower and a display of the historic Hallett tug boat.

While in Canada, try an ethnic food favorite--Poutine or French fries and cheese curds smothered in gravy.

Regulations for crossing the border vary between the United States and Canada, the best advice is to carry a passport.
