Position Description
Job Summary:
The Executive Director of the International Falls, Ranier & Rainy Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is responsible for the overall management and operation of the organization. This includes implementing and executing a strategic marketing plan to promote tourism and promote economic activity to the area(s). The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the CVB’s goals and objectives are met, while also serving as the primary representative of the organization to the public, lodging tax members, and partners.

Job Summary:
The Executive Director of the International Falls, Ranier & Rainy Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is responsible for the overall management and operation of the organization. This includes implementing and executing a strategic marketing plan to promote tourism and promote economic activity to the area(s). The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the CVB’s goals and objectives are met, while also serving as the primary representative of the organization to the public, lodging tax members, and partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning and Implementation:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic marketing plan to promote the area as a premier travel destination in accordance with the approved budget.
- Identify key target markets and create marketing campaigns to attract tourists.
- Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of marketing strategies and adjust plans as needed.
- Monitor and Manage Social Media Account & Website. Responsible for the oversight of design, production and distribution of various marketing materials.
- Board Relations:
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop organizational goals, policies, and strategies.
- Provide regular updates and reports to the Board on the CVB’s performance, initiatives, and financial status.
- Act as a liaison between the Board and CVB staff, ensuring alignment and effective communication.
- Identify and promote professional development opportunities for the Board and key stakeholders.
- Operational Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the CVB, including staff management, financial oversight, and administrative functions.
- Ensure the efficient use of resources and adherence to the organization’s budget.
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance organizational efficiency of the office as well as with the Board and Stakeholders.
- Public Relations and Advocacy:
- Serve as the primary representative of the CVB to the public, media, government officials, and other stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, local businesses, and tourism-related organizations.
- Advocate for the CVB’s mission and goals at local, regional, and national levels.
- Working Conditions:
- This position may require occasional evening and weekend work.
- Travel may be required for industry events, meetings, and conferences.
- Evaluation:
- The Executive Committee of the Board evaluates this position annually with input from the full Board. The primary evaluation criteria are based on the objectives outlined in the CVB's marketing plans, personal objectives, and other data reflecting the CVB's success.
- Reporting Relationship:
- The Executive Director reports to the Board through its Chair.
